WOOLS ROAD

HASA Architects was appointed to concept design for the complete refurbishment of a period property in Wimbledon villages. The site is on a corner plot secluded with a perimeter of mature trees and shrubbery, a golf course forms the boundary to two sides of the site.

The current property and layout did not fulfill the client requirements who required additional space for there young family, they required a new living and private area that would be independent to the main house, they were particular interested to capture on the day light throughout the day and have a strong connection to the garden.

Our approach was to create a scheme that was to be read a new addition but still remained subornate to the main house the placement and the proposed massing and volume was developed through a series of massing and 3D explorations, we developed a proposal that stepped between the existing house and the proposed rear and side extensions.

A series of carefully considered double height spaces provide a visual and spatial connection between these spaces and allow light to be captured throughout the day. Large expanses of glazing form a semi permeable skin to the additions, blurring the distinction between the interior and the exterior views reaching vires over the golf course defuse the sense of a boundary to the site.

A new landscape set on two levels form two terraces that capture the morning and evening light and ground the new extension into the landscape

To both the interior and exterior, the incisive additions are articulated as Black seamless volumes complement the brick of the original building
